Whether you are an individual who is more focused on the details or the big picture vision, we will be looking at how to streamline, simplify, and focus on what truly matters most to you in your environment.

I believe that it is so easy to gloss over the seemingly small things that actually matter to us and focus on aspects that may actually matter to someone else but are inconsequential to us. Our environment can be actively working against us because we have not spent the time to ensure our environments match our ideal lifestyle.

Determine What Needs to Go

In building margin into life, it’s vital to seek out what you really want margin for, but maybe even more importantly, define what it is that you don’t want. For about 6-years, I worked to transform my life through a process of replacing habits, knowing that habits and actions shape your reality. So by changing these, you can then change your current reality.

The great thing is that you get to choose what you want to pursue, the direction you want to take your life, who or what you are going to live for, what relationships you want to have, what you want to do for a living, where you want to live, what you will do for fun, and the legacy that you will leave behind. You have more control over these aspects than you might think.

I believe that a legacy is not only what you pass down in the way of your belongings but also who you were and how you lived your life to impact current and future generations.

Historically, before the information age and the resulting hyper-documented lives, people knew their lineage, heritage, and traditions by intentionally telling stories, stories that could be passed from one generation to the next. This allowed a family to pull gold from the past, not only in knowing their family tree and passing down keepsakes and heirlooms but also in family recipes, beliefs, and ways of life.

So what does your story tell so far?

Does it communicate to someone that your job, climbing the ladder, being successful, and making a living are what you live for, or is it to make a positive impact, being intentional with your life energy and building a life?

Today, many of us are disconnected from these things even though we are more connected than ever. So what is it that matters in our environments today to ensure that we are intentionally moving forward, not only making a living but also building a life?

In this theme, we will explore building margin by way of intentionality by deliberately living life to have a more significant impact, living a proactive life, allowing for margin to permeate the aspects of life that truly matter most, and minimizing or eliminating those aspects that don’t actually matter to us.
